Top 6 Antioxidants for Radiant Skin

It’s not surprising that the blend of these antioxidants is highly effective in improving skin health.

The unique combination of the top six antioxidants makes Summer C face serum a best-selling product, and there is no doubt that its multitasking benefits are effective on all skin types, including sensitive and acne-prone skin. Supplemented by other active ingredients, it is especially beneficial for dehydrated and dry skin, irritated and compromised barriers, uneven texture and skin tones, discolorations, flaky and dull skin, unbalanced microbiome, and compromised barriers.

1. What is exactly the meaning of antioxidants in skincare?

Antioxidants are commonly used in skincare products for their ability to protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals, which can accelerate skin aging, cause inflammation, and contribute to skin problems such as acne, rosacea, and hyperpigmentation. Summer C Face Serum targets dark spots, prevents future hyperpigmentation

Topical antioxidants like Vitamin C can help to neutralize free radicals that are produced in the skin as a result of UV radiation, pollution, and other environmental stressors. They can also enhance the skin’s natural defense mechanisms and improve its overall health and appearance.

2. How can I incorporate antioxidants into my skincare routine?

When looking to incorporate antioxidants into your skincare routine, it’s important to choose products that have been tested in the lab to confirm their benefits and results.

Additionally, it’s crucial to look for products that have been tested for stability, ensuring that the antioxidants will not lose their benefits over time. Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate, which is the stable form of Vitamin C is one of the key ingredients of our Summer C Face Serum.

Our Summer C Face Serum is a great example of a product that has been rigorously tested in the lab to confirm its effectiveness and stability. Packed with 20 potent active ingredients, including 6 powerful antioxidants, this serum brightens, targets dark spots, and prevents future hyperpigmentation while leaving the skin plumper, smoother, and deeply hydrated. Simultaneously keeping your skin microbiome balanced and skin barrier intact!  Plus, we’ve done the lab tests to confirm its benefits, which you can check out on our website.

By choosing products that have undergone these tests, you can trust that you’re getting the most out of your antioxidant skincare routine.

3. Should I use multiple antioxidant products in my skincare routine?

Incorporating multiple antioxidant products into your skincare routine may not be necessary or even beneficial. The best approach is to choose one multitasking product that is formulated with several antioxidants and other powerful ingredients (check our “Ingredients” section).

Using too many antioxidant products can also increase the risk of irritation or sensitization, especially if they contain high concentrations of potent antioxidants. By selecting a well-formulated multitasking product, like Summer C Face Serum, you can ensure that the formula is stable, and the ingredients work together to boost each other’s performance, without the need for multiple products.

It’s important to note that while antioxidants can be beneficial for the skin, they should be used in conjunction with other skincare ingredients and a healthy lifestyle for optimal results. A balanced diet, regular exercise, and minimizing exposure to environmental stressors can also help improve the overall health and appearance of your skin.

4. What are free radicals?

In skincare, free radicals are unstable molecules that are generated in the skin when it is exposed to UV radiation from the sun, pollution, and other environmental stressors.

These free radicals can damage skin cells, collagen, and elastin fibers, leading to premature aging, wrinkles, fine lines, and hyperpigmentation.

To combat the harmful effects of free radicals on the skin, skincare products often contain antioxidants, which help to neutralize free radicals and protect the skin from oxidative stress.

5. Antioxidants and skin microbiome

Antioxidants can play an essential role in maintaining a healthy skin microbiome. The skin microbiome is the collection of microorganisms, such as bacteria, fungi, and viruses, that live on the skin’s surface. A balanced skin microbiome is crucial for maintaining healthy skin as it helps protect the skin from harmful environmental factors, regulates inflammation, and supports the skin’s natural barrier function.

Antioxidants work by neutralizing free radicals, unstable molecules that can cause damage to the skin and disrupt the skin microbiome. Free radicals can cause inflammation, cell damage, and even cell death.

By neutralizing free radicals, antioxidants help reduce the damage caused by these molecules, thus promoting a healthy skin microbiome.

Additionally, certain antioxidants, such as vitamin C and E, have been shown to have antimicrobial properties, which can help control the growth of harmful bacteria on the skin.

By reducing harmful bacteria, these antioxidants can promote a healthier skin microbiome and help prevent skin infections and other skin conditions.

Incorporating antioxidants into your skincare routine may have benefits beyond just antioxidant protection, including promoting a healthy skin microbiome.

6. Top 6 antioxidants for a radiant complexion

We created a list of top 6 antioxidants that you can incorporate into your skincare routine in only one multitasking product!

Vitamin C / Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate

Our Summer C Face Serum is formulated with an extremely effective and stable form of Vitamin C: AscorbyTetraisopalmitate. We used Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate, because this stable form of vitamin C is oil-soluble and penetrates the lipophilic barrier of the epidermis three times more effectively than L-ascorbic acid. Meaning it allows for better delivery of the antioxidant and its benefits to the skin.

Vitamin C is one of the most powerful antioxidants, it prevents premature skin aging, minimizes the look of dark spots and sun damage, evens skin tone and texture, and protects against environmental stressors. Additionally, it also helps in reducing the loss of water across the epidermis (TEWL).

It’s worth noting that the synthetic (lab-created) form of Vitamin C – Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate in skincare is generally more stable and less prone to oxidation, which can lead to decreased potency over time. We are so glad that there are amazing scientists that do that for us!

Vitamin E / Tocopherol

Powerful and potent antioxidant with anti-radical effect prevents premature skin aging and improves the lipid barrier.

There are lots of studies showing that Vit E has some nice photoprotection properties, meaning it can protect the skin from UV (can not be used instead of SPF!).

Vitamin E is an excellent ingredient in skincare formulations as it effectively stabilizes vitamin C. It is a naturally occurring element in healthy skin, and it serves as the second most abundant antioxidant after vitamin C. Vitamin E is reducing the loss of water across the epidermis (TEWL). The form of Vitamin E used in our Summer C face Serum formula has a natural origin. Studies indicate that the natural form of Vitamin E exhibits greater activity and enhanced absorption.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide, an active form of vitamin B3, is also known as nicotinamide. It’s one of the best ingredients known for visibly reducing enlarged pores and improving dull skin. It also helps fight against hyperpigmentation and improves uneven skin tones. Additionally, it supports the care of acne-prone skin, regulates sebum, and speeds up epidermal cell growth.

Niacinamide builds a stronger skin barrier, reduces trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL), and improves skin hydration. It enhances the skin’s production of ceramides, which help to strengthen the skin’s surface and prevent moisture loss and dehydration

Studies have suggested that niacinamide can also reduce the depth of wrinkles, preventing premature aging. Niacinamide differs from other potent antioxidants in that it remains stable even in the presence of heat and light. Research overwhelmingly shows complementary effects of combining niacinamide with other key ingredients to prevent premature aging. That’s why we use niacinamide in our Summer C Face Serum formula, alongside another 19 potent active ingredients. Niacinamide is a real wonder!

White Tea Leaf Water

In our Summer C Face Serum, we incorporate an organic version of this potent ingredient rich in antioxidants. White Tea Leaf Water, derived from the Camellia sinensis plant, is a natural ingredient that is minimally processed and contains higher amounts of antioxidants than other teas due to being sourced from the plant’s young leaves and buds.

White Tea Leaf Water is one of the key components in our Summer C Face Serum, where it aids in the prevention of premature skin aging, has calming, soothing, and hydrating properties, and also helps to reduce redness and skin irritation.

White tea leaf water is also associated with promoting skin-brightening and hydrating effects, making it a crucial ingredient in products like Summer C Face Serum that aim to enhance skin tone and texture. White Tea Leaf Water is one of the best antioxidants for every skin type!

Cotton Seed Oil

Source of linoleic acid, fatty acids, and vitamin E. Our Summer C Face Serum benefits from Cotton Seed Oil in multiple ways! Regenerates and protects skin from moisture loss and reduces trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL). Has antioxidant properties and helps to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles. It is easily absorbed into the skin, helping to hydrate and soothe dry or irritated skin making it especially beneficial for those with dry or sensitive skin.

The form of this great antioxidant used in our Summer C Face Serum has a natural origin. It’s definitely one of the best antioxidants that you should look for in hydrating and soothing skincare products!

Meadowfoam Seed Oil

It is extracted from the seed of Limnanthes Alba, an agricultural plant mostly grown in Oregon, USA. It contains antioxidant components, such as vitamin E and phytosterols. The oil is non-greasy and is rapidly absorbed, leaving the skin feeling soft and smooth with a silky finish.

Meadowfoam Seed Oil balances sebum production and locks moisture into the skin. It is a great antioxidant for all skin types, but extremely beneficial for those with dry or mature skin.

This oil can prevent enzymes from breaking down collagen in the skin and reduce the harm caused by UVB rays ( it cannot be used instead of SPF). The form of Meadowfoam Seed Oil used in our Summer C face serum has a natural origin and acts as a great occlusive agent that also reduces trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL).

This powerful antioxidant is highly stable due to its composition of long-chain fatty acids. These fatty acids are less prone to oxidation and rancidity when exposed to oxygen, which makes meadowfoam seed oil a valuable ingredient in skincare products that are prone to spoiling quickly. With a high concentration (up to 95%) of these long-chain fatty acids, particularly erucic acid, meadowfoam seed oil has a unique stability and resistance to oxidative damage.

The oil’s stability also allows for a longer shelf life than many other plant oils, which can help extend the shelf life of products that contain it. Additionally, the high stability of meadowfoam seed oil makes it an excellent carrier oil for other skincare ingredients, helping to protect them from oxidation and maintain their potency over time.

These benefits demonstrate why we believe in the power of the formula of multitasking skincare products over single-ingredient skincare products.

Incorporating antioxidants into your skincare routine has a multitude of benefits, including protecting your skin from UV radiation, reducing inflammation, brightening your complexion, improving skin texture, and minimizing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
